Botanist Flight Bench

The Botanist Flight Bench was designed by Margo Chase in 2008. The concept is Margo Chase's expression of the freedom of flight. The shapes are biomorphic and abstract- birds, but not birds. They scatter across the curved surfaces like leaves blown by the breeze, random, chaotic, joyful. The colors are earth tones, the color of plains, forests and deserts, the color of the land beneath the sky and the cycle of the seasons. Chase recently learned how to fly. Flying a small plane is a study in contradictions; it is both an expression of freedom and an acknowledgment of mans lack of freedom. Chase is pushing her self expression further than most pilots by learning aerobatics. Being able to do loops, rolls and hammerheads allows her to play in all three dimensions. But even the best airplane can only approximate the experience a bird must have. Knowing instinctively how to fly from soon after birth, to them, the sky must feel like home. The Flight Bench is formed from a quarter-inch aluminum alloy sheet, making it durable yet lighter than you might expect. The Flight Bench is then finished with a powder coating that is solvent-free and comprised of various synthetic resins, pigments and special additives for a high quality surface finish. These economic and ecological powder coatings represent the future of paint technology. The powder coatings are UV and weather resistant intended to be used outdoors. These benches are corrosion resistant so they are welcome in a damp environment and look great in a garden or around the pool.
