Hans Wegner was a renown Danish furniture designer. His designs exemplify the quality craftsmanship and modern aesthetics that made mid-century Danish design so famous. He is most well known for his unique and quality chair designs.

Wegner started his career as a carpenter’s apprentice when he was just a child. He attended technical college and later the School of Arts and crafts and the Architectural Academy in Copenhagen. Wegner worked under Arne Jacobsen for some time. He eventually founded his own company. Some of the Danish furniture producers he desinged for include PP Møbler, Fredericia Stolefabrik, Johannes Hansen, Carl Handen & Son, Fritz Hansen, Getama, etc. Throughout his career he designed over 500 chairs. Some of his most famous designs include the Peacock chair, the Windsor chair, the Shell chair, the Valet chair, the Ox chair, and the Wishbone chair. He has received almost every major honor or award given to designers.
