Srdjan Simic
Srdjan Simic was born in 1975 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. Growing up he always had a strong influence and support in design and art from his father, an esteemed professor of structural engineering in architecture, and his mother, a meticulous domestic craftswoman. A sketchbook was never far from reach, even from a very young age. He graduated from The High School for Applied Arts, with emphasis in Graphic design. In 1992, a raging civil war forced him to leave his home country. He spent the next four years seeking refuge in the countries of Western Europe.
In 1996, a desire for a better life and prosperity made him decide to move to the United States. It was there where he developed a strong interest and passion for functional objects, primarily furniture. He received his Bachelor degree in Furniture Design from San Diego State University, under Wendy Maruyama.
Working as a high end custom furniture/product designer and builder over the next several years, he honed his craftsmanship and structural/mechanical understanding. In 2003, he founded Zool Designs, a San Diego based multidisciplinary design studio, focusing on furniture and product design, along with interior and architectural details.
